Activating with an AC outlet

If you are using a controller that has 110v AC outlet on it you can simply plug in the FLASH! Cracker and leave its power switch to ON.  The controller will simply turn the FLASH! Cracker ON and OFF by activating the AC outlet.  Our PicoBoo AC, PicoFX, and BooBox Flex with AC Outlet Accessories will all operate the FLASH! Cracker this way.

Activating with relays

If you are using a controller or relay that does not have 110v AC outlets on it you will need to tap into the AC power cable to activate as shown in the images below.  The controller will turn the FLASH! Cracker ON and OFF by contacting the two wires.  Our PicoBoo JR, PicoBoo, BooBox Flex with Relay Accessories, and Wireless Remotes will all operate the FLASH! Cracker this way.

Identify Your Cracker Cable Type

There have been 3 different cable configurations and each has it's own wiring instructions. It is very important that you tap into your specific style of cable as shown. If you tap into any other part of the cable assembly you risk overheating the FLASH! Cracker. Identify which you have and then follow those specific instructions.

Black Cable with Black Push Button Switch (currently shipping)

If your FLASH! Cracker has a black cord with a black pushbutton type switch then you will need to wire as such:

Step 1: Open the case by removing two screws in the back

Step 2: Carefully pry the circuit board from the enclosure so you can get to it

Step 3: Locate these two exact spots on the circuit board. There are two different styles, make sure yours matches one of these two pictures.
STYLE ASTYLE BSTYLE C
Step 4: Carefully solder 18 gauge wire onto each of the two locations

Step 5: Drill a hole in the case to feed the wire through* and re-assemble the case.

* It's a good idea to also tie a knot in the wires inside the case so when pulled on they don't get ripped off the circuit board.

Now when the two wires are contacted by a controller or relay ("C" and "NO") the cracker will fire.

Black Cable with Red Toggle Switch (discontinued)

If your FLASH! Cracker has a black cord with a red toggle switch directly on the plug then you will need to wire as such:
