This sensor also includes a "learning feature" which essentially allows it to either sense touch directly, or through an object (such as a piece of wood). This way you can make a prop or decorative item that only activates when it is touched in a certain spot (i.e.: a hidden door that opens when you touch the correct hieroglyphic).

Would this touch sensor be sensitive enough to "activate" when touched by something like a rubber ball? And would it stay activated as long as the ball was in place?

Yes. Rubber will work. The sensor will stay active as long as the ball is in place.
